Universities and educational institutions have been urged to fast-track the introduction of AI courses and invest more in the field to cultivate a more skilled workforce and improve AI systems.
The call was made during the 4th Online Lecture Series organized by the School of Computing, Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria.
Professor Ihtiram Raza Khan from Jamia Hamdad, India, who made the call, noted that AI is increasingly becoming an integral part of our daily lives and economic activities, particularly in the context of building sustainable smart cities.
The lecture titled: AI in Design of Sustainable Smart Cities -Role of AI in Sustainability, was aimed at providing insight on the roles of AI in supporting daily social life and economic activities.
Professor Khan, who spoke at length on the importance of AI, predicted that in the future, AI will evolve into a utility accessible to all, while becoming a commonplace as cloud computing within the next four to five years.
The program, attended by both staff and students, featured discussions from faculty members and contributions from the audience, who shared valuable insights and perspectives on the topic at hand.
In his remarks, Prof. Ibrahim Alhaji Lawal, Dean of the School of Computing, highlighted the importance of AI, particularly in areas such as security, agriculture, and construction.
He expressed gratitude to Professor Raza Khan for presenting a well-researched paper and called for more presentations of this nature in the future.
