Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN) on Thursday, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the TechnoServe on Entrepreneurship and Digital Skills
The signing of the MoU is a major step toward strengthening partnerships with other institutions and organizations with a view to promoting innovation in the university.
The President of MAAUN, Prof. (Dr.) Mohammad Israr signed the document on behalf of the university while TechnoServe Country Director, Adesuwa Akinboro, signed on behalf of his organization.
TechnoServe is currently undertaking a project, Skilling Adolescent and Young Women on Entrepreneurship and Employment (SAY-WEE) under the sponsorship of United Nations Children’s Fund, (UNICEF).
SAY-WEE project is expected to improve the Employability and Entrepreneurship of 37,000 adolescents girls (13-17) and Young Women (18-25) in Lagos and Kano States.
The partnership is expected to deliver quality entrepreneurship, soft skills, and digital skills education and capacity building for female students within the institution through supporting the institutional capacity of organizations and broad communication to stimulate job creation sustainably.
Speaking shortly after the signing of the document, TechnoServe Program Manager, Maryam Tafida Bello said the signing of the MoU signalled the momentous commencement of the partnership between the two organizations.
She said the project, which is being funded by UNICEF, would enable MAAUN students to benefit from the project by getting the needed skills and knowledge they require in entrepreneurship ventures.
According to her, the project targets young women who want to start a business along with the self-employment track.
This will enable the students to receive training on entrepreneurial skills needed to start a business and support to expand their businesses.
In his remarks, the Vice President Administration, Dr. Habib Awais Abubakar said MAAUN is one of the institutions selected to benefit from the project, which is expected to train 37,000 young adolescents in Kano and Lagos States
In her closing remark, Dr. Samira Hassan, a Language Technology Expert /EduTech Consultant and faculty member, commended TechnoServe and UNICEF for choosing MAAUN as one of the institutions to benefit from the Project in Kano State.
Other management staff members present during the MoU signing ceremony included Head, Human Resource Unit, Hajiya Maimuna Sa’id Bello and Head of International Office, Engr. Bashir Garba.
