The Department of Computer Science at Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN), in collaboration with Startbench Innovation Hub, hosted a one-day intensive workshop on Blockchain Technology and Cybersecurity on Thursday.
The event, attended by students from the Computer Science and IT-related disciplines, aimed to provide participants with an introduction to Blockchain technology and its real-world applications, including Web3, smart contracts, and decentralized systems.
Speaking, Mr. Mubarak Kankara, Chair of the Computer Science Department, stated that the workshop sought to expose attendees to the fundamentals of cybersecurity, hands-on demonstrations, and best practices for securing digital assets.
Industry experts from Startbench Innovation Hub discussed extensively the high-demand career pathways in Web3, blockchain development, and ethical hacking.
As part of this initiative, selected participants will receive full scholarships to attend free beginner-level Blockchain training, helping them build a foundation in one of the fastest-growing tech domains.
MAAUN students will also benefit from a one-month online Cybersecurity Mentorship Program, gaining practical, career-focused experience with expert guidance and real-world projects.
In his opening remarks, the Vice President Administration, Dr. Habib Awais Abubakar, emphasized the importance of digital skills in today’s technology-driven world.
According to him, digital skills are essential for students to succeed academically, as they provide a foundation and opportunities for future employment after graduation.
In her remarks, the Head of Human Resource Unit, Hajiya Maimuna S. Bello, advised students to make the most of the opportunities provided by the university to acquire the necessary digital skills for their future development.
In his vote of thanks, the Acting President of the university, Prof. Ahmed Ibrahim Maigari, commended the department for organizing the program, noting that students would not only gain relevant knowledge but also have the opportunity to connect with tech innovators.
He used the occasion to appreciate those who contributed in one way or the other towards ensuring the success of the workshop.
