As part of the Nursing Convention 2025, students of the School of Nursing Sciences, Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria, on Monday organized a one-day health outreach for staff, students, and members of the university community.
The event, held at the MAAUN Sports Complex, was aimed at promoting wellness and community service.
The outreach, themed “A Day of Care, Wellness, and Community Service,” provided a wide range of free health services and screenings to encourage healthy living.
Services offered included blood pressure and blood sugar checks, BMI and nutritional assessments, medical consultations, mental health awareness, and health education and counseling.
Nursing students and health professionals attended to participants, offering expert guidance and advice on maintaining healthy lifestyles.
The participants used the opportunity to undergo basic medical checks and receive counseling on nutrition, stress management, and preventive health practices.
In his welcome address, the Dean of the School of Nursing Sciences, Dr. Umar Lawal, described the event as one of its kind to be organized in the university.
He noted that the outreach was intended to give nursing students a chance to showcase their skills and practical training.
He pledged the department’s continued support for similar activities in the future.
In a goodwill message, Dr. Habib Awais Abubakar, Vice President Administration, praised the School of Nursing Sciences for the initiative.
He described the outreach as a valuable platform for students to apply classroom knowledge in real-life situations.
Dr. Awais also assured the students of the university’s continued support for such programs.
Also speaking, the Vice President Campus Life, Dr. Hamza Garba, expressed joy over the program’s success.
He commended the school for its mentorship and community engagement, which he said reflect MAAUN’s vision.
The two-day event featured lecture sessions, presentations, debates, and fun activities designed to enlighten and inspire nursing students about their studies and career prospects.
In his closing remarks, Prof. Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, Founder and President of MAAUN Group of Universities, urged students to take their studies seriously.
He reminded them that nursing offers global opportunities and commended the organizers for their initiative.
Prof. Gwarzo also pledged continued institutional support for future outreach programs.
