Diplomat Lauds MAAUN, Urges Establishment of its Campus in Bangladesh

The High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Nigeria, Mr. Miah Mainul Kabir, has called for the establishment of a branch of Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN) in Bangladesh.

Mr. Mainul Kabir, who made the request when he visited MAAUN Kano on Monday, said establishing MAAUN in Bangladesh would increase the university’s global visibility in advancing knowledge and technical skills at the global stage.

The Envoy lauded MAAUN for its growing reputation in academic excellence and research innovation, noting that the institution’s consistent drive for innovation makes it a model for emerging universities across the world.

The Ambassador was in the University to deliver a lecture titled: Harnessing the Capacity of Youth in Economic and Social Advancement.

The lecture organized by the Bangladesh High Commission, Abuja in collaboration with the MAAUN aimed to empower the youth to build a better future for themselves and the country.

Earlier before the lecture, the university Management and the visiting Bangladesh High Commissioner had a lengthy discussion session on various areas of possible collaboration between the university and Bangladesh.

He emphasized the Embassy’s ongoing efforts to engage with governments, institutions, and private organizations to foster impactful collaborations for development.

The Visiting diplomat and his entourage were later conducted round some important places in the university including the MAAUN Innovation hub located within the School of Computing where he inspected the facility.

Earlier in his welcome address, the President of MAAUN, Prof. (Dr.) Mohammad Israr said the lecture by the visiting High Commissioner is a testament to MAAUN’s commitment to fostering global partnerships and promoting youth empowerment.

He stressed the need to equip the youth with the skills, knowledge, and opportunities necessary to drive positive change.

In his remarks, the Vice President Administration, Dr. Habib Awaisu Abubakar, appreciated both the Bangladesh High Commission and the university administration for advancing collaborative interests aimed at strengthening education and development.

Presenting the paper, the High Commissioner highlighted the critical role of youth in shaping economic and social transformation, noting that both Bangladesh and Nigeria possess vibrant youth populations that represent a powerful demographic advantage.

He shared inspiring examples of youth-led innovations, global cooperation, and social progress, explaining that young people around the world are already driving meaningful change.

According to him, MAAUN students are well positioned to be part of this global movement, praising the institution for its dynamic learning environment, visionary leadership, and strong commitment to student development.

In his closing remarks, the Dean, School of Postgraduate, Prof. Ibrahim Maigari lauded the Bangladesh ambassador for choosing MAAUN as the host institution for such a significant event.
