MAAUN reaffirms commitment to Internationalization at British Council TNE Session

Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria has taken a significant step toward enhancing its global engagement by participating in the British Council’s Transnational Education (TNE) Sensitization Workshop held in Abuja.

The two-day workshop, which took place from 26–27 November, brought together Nigerian universities, representatives of UK higher education institutions, and key regulatory bodies—including the National Universities Commission (NUC)—to advance discussions on cross-border education and international partnerships.

MAAUN was represented at the event by the Director of the Institute of Africa Higher Education Research and Innovation, Prof. Abubakar Sadiq Haruna.

In a remark, Prof Sadiq noted that MAAUN’s vision aligns with the principles of Transnational Education, particularly in promoting global academic standards, fostering innovation, and expanding access to learning opportunities for students.

Organized by the British Council, the workshop equipped institutions with practical guidance on internationalization strategies, digital visibility, institutional branding, and positioning for global rankings.

During the session, participants examined the growing importance of TNE in improving access to quality higher education, enhancing academic excellence, and increasing the global competitiveness of Nigerian universities.

The event was attended by vice-chancellors, directors of internationalisation, registrars, TNE officers, and senior officials from the British Council, NUC, and selected UK universities involved in cross-border education initiatives.
