Celebrating Our First Graduating Class – Class of 2025
Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN), Kano, successfully held its Maiden Convocation Ceremony on Saturday, December 20th, 2025, marking a momentous occasion in the institution’s journey and the lives of its first cohort of graduates.
The event brought together graduating students, parents, faculty, dignitaries, government officials, and members of the university community to celebrate the academic achievements of the Class of 2025.
43 First‑Class Graduates Awarded Fully Funded Foreign Scholarships
One of the most remarkable highlights of the ceremony was the announcement of fully funded foreign scholarships awarded to 43 graduates who earned First Class honours.
The Founder of MAAUN, Prof. Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, announced that each beneficiary would receive full sponsorship to pursue a Master’s degree in any country of their choice worldwide.
Congratulating the graduates, Prof. Gwarzo urged them to remain disciplined, value‑driven, and to serve as worthy ambassadors of MAAUN across the globe, noting that the institution would continue to invest in talent and excellence.
Graduation Statistics and Academic Growth
In his convocation address, the President of the University, Prof. (Dr.) Mohammad Israr, highlighted the rapid academic growth of the institution:
MAAUN commenced academic activities in 2022 with 15 programmes across four schools
The university has expanded to 22 academic programmes across eight schools
MAAUN was ranked Second Best Private University in Nigeria by the AD Scientific Index, reflecting its strong academic output and research impact

Second Class Lower: 229
Programmes Covered: 12 academic programmes
Prof. Israr emphasized that the convocation was proof of MAAUN’s vision to deliver quality education aligned with global standards.
🏅 ₦5 Million Award for Best Graduating Student
The Best Graduating Student, Khadija Ibrahim Manzo of the Department of Human Resource Management, was awarded a ₦5 million cash prize by the Founder, Prof. Gwarzo, in recognition of her outstanding academic performance.
The award underscored MAAUN’s philosophy of rewarding merit, discipline, and excellence.

Messages from Distinguished Dignitaries
The Chancellor of the University and Director of the European Centre for Leadership and Entrepreneurship Education (ECLEE), Prof. Mahamouda Salouhou, congratulated the graduates and encouraged them to uphold the university’s values of integrity, leadership, and service wherever they go.
The Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, represented by the Chief of Staff, Dr. Wali Sulaiman Sani, reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to supporting education and strengthening partnerships with institutions like MAAUN.
In a goodwill message, Prof. Hakeem Ibukunle Tijani of Morgan State University, Baltimore, USA, praised Prof. Gwarzo’s resilience and vision, particularly in fostering international academic collaboration between MAAUN and one of the oldest universities in the United States.
Former NUC Executive Secretary, Prof. Abubakar Adamu Rasheed, represented by Dr. Ibrahim Usman Yakasai, described the maiden convocation as a defining moment, noting that MAAUN has rapidly emerged as the most popular private university in North‑West Nigeria.
