MAAUN Founder’s Vision Will Benefit Millions, Says Sokoto Deputy Governor

Hon. Idris Muhammad Gobir, the Deputy Governor of Sokoto State and alumnus of Maryam Abacha American University, Maradi (MAAUN), has commended the Founder of the institution, Prof. Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, for his vision and investment in education, describing the university as a source of pride and opportunity for thousands of people.

The Deputy Governor made the remarks on Saturday, August 8, 2026, while speaking at a ceremony marking the leadership handover of the Maryam Abacha American University of Niger-Maradi.

Speaking at the event, the Deputy Governor said he felt honoured to be part of the occasion, recalling his early association with MAAUN Niger as one of the institution’s pioneer students, particularly among the first set of its PhD programme.

“I am one of those people that are pioneers of MAAUN Niger, and more especially when it comes to the PhD class. We were the first set of the university,” he said.

The Deputy Governor said his association with the university had remained a source of pride, noting that his academic journey at MAAUN had taken him from undergraduate studies through postgraduate education to obtaining a PhD.

“We are always proud and associated with Maryam Abacha American University Maradi, because it really makes us proud. I am now a PhD holder from the university,” he said.

He disclosed that he obtained his Bachelor of Science, Master of Science and PhD degrees from the university, describing his long-standing relationship with the institution as one that had made him part of its wider family.

“I have BSc, MSc and PhD from Maryam Abacha American University. I have become a family of the university. We always pray for the university to go to the sky,” the Deputy Governor said.

He particularly praised Prof. Gwarzo for what he described as his commitment to creating opportunities for people to achieve their aspirations.

According to him, the founder is the kind of person communities need because of his determination to help others improve their lives and realise their dreams.

“Alhaji Adamu Abubakar is the kind of person that we always pray to have and hope to have in our community, because he is one of those people that all he is doing and hoping is pushing people to better, to create opportunities for others to realise their dream,” he said.

The Deputy Governor further expressed pride in his continued relationship with MAAUN, describing himself as not only a former student but also an associate and member of the university’s family.

“I am always proud to be one of your students, associate and family of MAAUN,” he said.

He also thanked Prof. Gwarzo for his vision and investment in education, saying that establishing and developing an institution of such magnitude required considerable foresight and commitment.

“Gwarzo, thank you very much. The kind of vision, God bless you,” he said.

The Deputy Governor noted that investing in education at such a level would have a lasting impact on society, stressing that thousands and potentially millions of people could benefit from the opportunities created through the founder’s educational vision.

“This is a vision for somebody at your age to think of, coming in with this kind of investment in education. This kind of investment, thousands and even millions will benefit from it,” he said.

He reaffirmed his pride in being associated with MAAUN, while expressing prayers for the continued growth and success of the institution.
