The Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN) has inducted 88 graduates of Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN), Kano, into the medical laboratory science profession.
The inductees, who constitute the first set of Medical Laboratory Science graduates from MAAUN Kano to be inducted by the council, were formally admitted into the profession at a ceremony held in the university on Monday.
The induction is a major milestone for the graduates and the university, reflecting MAAUN’s commitment to producing qualified professionals capable of contributing to healthcare delivery in Nigeria and beyond.
Speaking at the event, the Registrar of the MLSCN, Dr. Donald Ibe Ofili, charged the inductees to uphold the highest standards of professional ethics and integrity.
He warned that the council would not condone falsification of results, unlicensed practice or quackery, stressing that anyone found engaging in such practices would be sanctioned.
Dr. Ofili said the council was committed to deepening its collaboration with MAAUN in curriculum development, faculty engagement and accreditation.
He used the occasion to commend the Founder of MAAUN, Prof. Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, for his investment in education and commitment to mentoring young Nigerians into the healthcare sector.
Speaking at the occasion, Prof. Gwarzo congratulated the 88 inductees on reaching an important milestone in their professional journey.
He urged them to remain committed to excellence, discipline and the ethical standards of the medical laboratory science profession.
The Founder said the university would continue to invest in quality education, modern facilities and professional training to equip its students with the skills needed to compete globally.
Also speaking, the Acting President of MAAUN, Prof. Ibrahim Lawal, described the induction as a significant milestone in the professional journey of the graduates.
He noted that Medical Laboratory Science plays a central role in modern healthcare, particularly in accurate diagnosis, effective treatment and successful patient management.
Prof. Lawal reaffirmed MAAUN’s commitment to strengthening its health sciences programmes and providing students with the knowledge, skills and professional values needed to contribute meaningfully to healthcare delivery.
The ceremony was attended by the National President of the Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria, Dr. Ifeanyi Casmir, among other dignitaries.
