Nursing Science (BNsc)

Develop the knowledge and clinical skills to assess and manage patients, and acquire the vital leadership and teamwork skills needed to work effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

Overview

BNSc Nursing program leads to a professional qualification, registration and licencing with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria. This is a patient-centered program that combines theory and clinical practice to give students hands-on experience in different healthcare settings.

Students will be taught by a team of qualified nursing faculties who will be assisted by other faculty members from the school, through the period of study.  Students will also have access to a world-class practical environment in which they will acquire core clinical skills, such as patients’ assessment and nursing diagnoses, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing interventions using the most appropriate available technology and innovations; this also includes simulation of the critically ill patients using interactive practical models.

Some potential roles for the graduates include:

Registered Nurse: Provide patient care, administer medications and treatments, and educate patients and their families about healthcare needs and options.

Nurse Practitioner: Assess, diagnose, and treat patients, prescribe medications, and collaborate with other healthcare professionals to develop and implement care plans.

Clinical Nurse Specialist: Work in specialized areas of healthcare, such as critical care, oncology, or pediatrics, and provide expert care, education, and consultation to patients and healthcare teams.

Nurse Educator: Work in academic institutions or healthcare organizations, and design and teach nursing courses and programs, as well as develop and implement staff training programs.

In addition to these specific roles, graduates can also pursue careers in various healthcare settings, such as:

Hospitals: Work in hospital settings, and provide direct patient care, as well as collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Community Health Centers: Work in community health centers, and provide primary care services to under-served populations, as well as promote community health and well-being.

Long-term Care Facilities: Work in long-term care facilities, such as nursing homes or rehabilitation centers, and provide ongoing care and support to patients with chronic or complex medical conditions.

Home Healthcare: Work in home healthcare agencies, and provide nursing care and support to patients in their homes, as well as educate patients and their families about managing health conditions.

Furthermore, this program also prepares graduates for entrepreneurship and innovation, enabling them to start their own nursing practices or work in the healthcare startup industry.
