AAPU appoints Prof. Sadiq as new Secretary-General

The Director, Institute of Africa Higher Education Research and Innovation (IAHERI), Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN), Prof. Abubakar Sadiq Harouna, has been appointed as the new Secretary -General of the Association of African Private Universities (AAPU).

The appointment letter was presented to Prof. Sadiq on Wednesday, 21st June, 2023, by the President of the Association, Prof. Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo at Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria, Kano.

Speaking shortly after presenting the letter, Prof. Gwarzo said the appointment was based on merit and his commitment to service, adding that the appointee has the intellectual capacity and wealth of experience to move the association to a greater height.

Prof. Gwarzo, who is also the Founder of Canadian University of Nigeria, Abuja, noted that the association will commence operation in earnest as all prerequisites are being put in place.

He charged Prof. Sadiq to give the opportunity his best shot by designing policies aimed at promoting higher education training and applied research programs, with a focus on research commercialization and entrepreneurship.

Prof. Gwarzo expressed optimism that the new appointee, given his exceptional track record of service, will live up to the expectation of his new office.

Before his new appointment, Prof. Sadiq held many positions including member, Board of Trustees, MAAUN Kano, Editor-in-chief, MAAUN Multidisciplinary Journal of Research and Innovation.

He was also an International Academic Advisor, Post Graduate Program, MAAUN Maradi (2020-2021), Acting HOD, Consulting Editor, Bayero Journal of Educational Research and Innovation, Educational Foundation, Federal University Gusau (2021) and Chairman Research and Conference Committee, Dept of Educational Foundations, Federal University Gusau, among others.

He is also a member of several professional bodies such as: American Psychological Association (APA), World Academy of Science Engineering and Technology (WASET), American Society of Educational Psychologists (ASEP) and International Society of Political Psychologist in addition to supervising over 15 Doctorate and several Master’s Candidates.

Prof. Sadiq attended and presented well researched papers at international conferences in Europe, Far Asia and Middle East.
