AISD in partnership with AFIDFF-UNESCO, organized the 2025 World Heritage Volunteer Program in Kano State

Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN) and the African Institute for Solutions and Development (AISD), in partnership with AFIDFF-UNESCO, successfully organized the 2025 World Heritage Volunteer Program in Kano State.

The event was graced by esteemed leadership, including the President of MAAUN, Prof. (Dr.) Mohammad Israr; the Executive Director of AISD, Dr. Salisu Mohammed Lawal; and the MAAUN Human Resources Officer, Engr. Bashir, alongside AFIDFF-UNESCO, AISD staff, and dedicated volunteers.

As part of the heritage conservation activities, volunteers explored the historic Emir’s Palace (Gidan Rumfa), a symbol of Kano’s enduring cultural identity. They documented the palace’s iconic architecture, engaged with its custodians, interacted with youth artisans, and captured the vibrancy of the living traditions preserved within its ancient walls.

The highlight of the program was a colorful ceremony with His Highness, Emir Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, where participants experienced a profound display of Kano’s royal heritage. It was a moment of cultural pride, showcasing history that continues to thrive across generations.
