The Junior International Relations students at Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN) have successfully conducted their first-ever student-led workshop, titled “Empowering Tomorrow: Leadership and Life Skills Workshop for Students as Future Professionals.” Held on November 6, 2024, at the Twin Theatre, the event aimed to build leadership capabilities and essential life skills among students, preparing them for both professional success and personal development.
The workshop commenced with an inspiring opening speech by Prof. Mahmud Mukhtar, Dean of the Faculty of Social and Management Sciences. In his remarks, Prof. Mahmud emphasized the significance of equipping students with critical leadership and life skills to facilitate a smooth transition from academia to the professional world. He underscored the importance of workshops like this in shaping the leaders of tomorrow.
The workshop sessions were engaging and interactive, featuring presentations from distinguished speakers who brought a wealth of knowledge and practical experience.
Dr. Abdulkadir Inuwa Abdulkadir, a faculty member at MAAUN Nigeria, delivered an insightful session on ethics, values, and effective interpersonal communication. His presentation highlighted the necessity of ethical behavior and strong communication skills in both personal and professional settings.
Dr. Musa Abdullahi Sufi, from MAAUN and Sufi Innovation and Development Solutions (SIDES), captivated the audience with his talk on youth leadership and etiquette skills. He provided actionable strategies for students to develop leadership qualities and conduct themselves with integrity in various situations.
Alhaji Ahmad Sanusi Marafa, a special guest and a community leader from the United Kingdom, shared his rich experience and wisdom on ethics and the importance of seizing both local and international opportunities. Living in the UK since 1985, Alhaji Marafa offered unique perspectives on professional growth, emphasizing the value of ethical behavior and strategic networking.
The workshop invited participation from all Junior International Relations students and members and the entire university community. The well-attended event provided a platform for students to gain essential skills that are crucial for their future careers.
Zainab Ibrahim Abdurrahman, Chairperson of the Organizing Committee, expressed sincere appreciation to Founder Professor Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, faculty members, all the participants and the entire organizing committee members acknowledging the entire team for their hard work and dedication.
