Education, Global Peace Take Center Stage as Prof Gwarzo Meets Atiku in Mecca

The President of the Association of African Private Universities (AAPU) and Founder of MAAUN Group of Universities, Prof. Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, has met with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in Saudi Arabia.

The meeting, which took place in the holy city of Mecca during the sacred month of Ramadan, centred around higher education, youth development, and the promotion of global peace.

It brought together two influential figures in African higher education, both known for expanding access to quality learning across Nigeria and beyond.

Their institutions — the MAAUN Group of Universities and the American University of Nigeria (AUN) — continue to promote academic excellence, leadership, and service.

Observers say both leaders have helped build globally competitive institutions that combine international standards with local relevance.

They note that such models are critical in preparing young people to tackle modern challenges.

Analysts believe the meeting could open doors for stronger collaboration in higher education.

This includes promoting innovation, youth empowerment, and policies that support sustainable development.

There are also indications that discussions may focus on the role of private universities in bridging educational gaps across Africa.

Held during Ramadan, it featured moments of reflection, shared prayers, and renewed commitment to faith, humility, and compassion.
