Expert Session: MAAUN urged to embrace Geosciences

Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria has been called upon to integrate Geosciences (the study of Earth sciences) into its curriculum to broaden its research capabilities.

Prof. Mohammed Abubakar Mohammed from Siberian School of Geosciences, Irkutsk National Research Technical University, Russia, made the call during an expert session at the University on Thursday.

The session, organized by the General Education Unit (Physics Specifics), was titled “Geosciences Uncovered: The Hidden Forces Shaping the World.”

The event aimed to provide participants with a deeper understanding of the intricate and powerful geological forces that shape our planet.

During his presentation, Prof. Mohammed discussed the significance of geoscience and its far-reaching impact on daily life, highlighting its role in understanding natural processes and addressing environmental challenges.

He discussed the importance of geoscience education, emphasizing its role in analyzing natural disasters, managing natural resources, and developing sustainable environmental solutions.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Murtala Haruna, Director, Basic Health Sciences urged participants to seize the opportunity to expand their knowledge on the topic, stressing that the topic was vital in understanding Earth’s dynamic systems.

The session ended with a question-and-answer, where Prof. Mohammed provided insightful answers that further enriched the understanding of the topic.

In her closing remarks, Hajia Maimuna Aliyu Abubakar, a faculty member, expressed gratitude to Prof. Mohammed for sharing his expertise and thanked the participants for their active engagement and enthusiasm throughout the session.

The event was attended by MAAUN President, Prof. (Dr.) Mohammad Israr, Vice President administration, Dr. Habib Awais Abubakar, Head of the Career Guidance and Placement Unit, Engr. Bashir Garba, and Head of the Human Resource Unit, Hajia Maimuna S. Bello, among others.

MAAUN, Russian Varsity set to partner on Geosciences

Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria is set to collaborate with the Irkutst National Research Technical University (INRTU), Russia on Geosciences (Earth Science). The discussion on the proposal for academic
