Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN) has established a Career Guidance, Training and Placement (CGTP) unit as part of an effort to prepare MAAUN students for successful careers in the university.
The President of MAAUN Group of Universities, Prof. Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, made the disclosure on Saturday, during the Orientation exercise organized by MAAUN for its 2024/2025 Freshmen (newly admitted students) held at Prof. Abubakar Adamu Rasheed Twin Theatre.
He said the unit is expected to achieve this
by building strategic partnerships with employers, designing skills training programs, and providing career counseling for students.
Prof. Gwarzo said the unit would also work closely with faculty members, alumni, industry partners, and students to ensure alignment with market needs, facilitating smooth transitions from academia to professional life.
According to him, the orientation program was designed to provide students with the requisite information, resources, and support that will enable them to succeed academically.
He, however, warned the new students against indulging in drug abuse as the institution has zero tolerance for drug abuse hence the reason candidates must undergo drug tests as pre-condition for admission.
He further charged the newly admitted students to be of good moral character so as to reflect the good image of the institution.
While urging the students to focus on their studies with all seriousness, Prof. Gwarzo advised them to shun bad companies in order not to get distracted from their studies.
