Students from the School of Computing, Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria, Kano, on Thursday undertook an academic excursion to Galaxy Backbone Plc, Kano, as part of their practical field experience for the Data Communication and Networking course.
The excursion was designed to expose the students to real-life applications in areas such as data center operations, enterprise networking infrastructure, internet services, and ICT solutions.
The students were accompanied by Mr. Abubakar Ibrahim, Head of ICT; Mr. Mubarak Kabir, Head of the Department of Computer Science; and Mr. Hayatuddeen M. Abdallah from the Corporate Communication Directorate, who coordinated and supervised the visit.
Upon arrival, the students and staff were warmly received by the technical team of Galaxy Backbone, who lectured the students on the company’s operations and its role in providing ICT services across Nigeria.
The students were also educated on network architecture, data transmission, and system management, gaining practical insights into how large-scale data networks are designed and maintained.
During the interactive session, Galaxy Backbone engineers demonstrated data center processes, including server configuration, power management, and data backup systems.
The session allowed students to observe firsthand how theoretical knowledge aligns with practical application.
The visit also featured a guided tour of the data center, where students witnessed live demonstrations of network monitoring and security systems.
Speaking, the Head of ICT, Mr Abubakar Ibrahim Tukur, commended Galaxy Backbone for hosting the students and providing a valuable learning opportunity.
He noted that such excursions are crucial in preparing students for professional excellence in the ICT industry.
