In an effort to promote education and drive technological innovation, the Department of Cyber Security and Information Technology, Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria, organized an expert session on artificial intelligence (AI) and software development.
The virtual event aimed to equip students and faculties with essential AI skills and knowledge to stay ahead in the rapidly evolving tech landscape.
The session was led by, Prof. (Dr.) Pastor Reglos Arguelles, Director of Research and Publication Office at University of Batangas, Philippines.
In his presentation, Prof. Arguelles deeply explored the software development lifecycle, shedding light on critical processes and best practices.
He discussed at length the four key stages of software development—Agile Development Method, DevOps, Waterfall, and Rapid Application Development (RAD) noting that each of these methodologies plays a crucial role in ensuring efficiency, flexibility, and scalability in software engineering.
While acknowledging the transformative potential of AI in software development, Prof. Arguelles cautioned against over-dependence on AI tools without human oversight.
He warned that blind reliance on automation could lead to quality and security risks if not properly managed.
Also speaking at the occasion, the Acting Chair of the Department, Mal. Muhammad Zubair, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to host such a distinguished expert, noting the significance of gaining firsthand knowledge from industry leaders.
During the session, the participants both online and offline, used the opportunity to ask questions, share insights and perspectives, especially on software development processes.
In his closing remarks, Mal. Abdulkabir Abdullahi, a faculty member, thanked the university leadership for promoting intellectual growth and international collaboration, recognizing Prof Gwarzo’s role in connecting MAAUN with global experts.
He also thanked the participants for their active engagement and appreciated Prof. Arguelles for his insightful presentation, emphasizing the university’s commitment to more of such enlightening opportunities.
