ICAN Pledges Scholarship for MAAUN First-Class Students

The Kano District Chairperson of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Ambassador Hadiza Gambo, announced plans to offer scholarship opportunities to outstanding first-class graduates of Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN).

Gambo revealed this during a courtesy visit to the university, emphasizing that the scholarship will be awarded based on specific eligibility criteria.

She explained that the purpose of the visit was to strengthen professional partnerships, promote accounting education, and create pathways for exceptional students to advance their careers within the accounting profession.

Gambo, who led the ICAN delegation, noted that the institute’s core responsibilities include regulating and fostering the accounting field in Nigeria, establishing ethical and professional standards, and supporting continuous professional training and capacity development for members and students.

During the visit, Prof. Mahmoud Muktar Sa’id, Dean of the School of Economics and Management Sciences at MAAUN, described the proposed partnership as timely and strategic.

He encouraged ICAN to articulate clear and practical areas through which students at MAAUN could benefit, particularly in professional development, mentorship, and career placement opportunities.

Prof. (Dr.) Mohammad Israr, President of MAAUN, provided an overview of the university’s academic vision, notable achievements, and dedication to producing graduates who are globally competitive.

He expressed gratitude to the ICAN delegation for considering MAAUN as a potential partner and reaffirmed the university’s commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at enhancing students’ professional prospects.

During the visit, the delegation toured various university facilities, including the twin theater, library, and the School of Economics and Management Sciences.

Attendees included Engr. Bashir, Head of the International Office, and his assistant Mrs. Janvi Haresh.

Other representatives from ICAN present were Jamilu Abdullahi, Vice Chair; Kabiru Auwal Ibrahim Audu, Technical Secretary, among others.
