MAAUN-AISD Advocates for Community Development in North East Nigeria

Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria – African Institute for Solutions and Development (MAAUN-AISD) has paid a series of advocacy visits aimed at enhancing community development initiatives in North East Nigeria.

Led by the President of MAAUN, Prof. (Dr.) Mohammad Israr, the team included officials from the Development Institute, including the Executive Director, Dr. Salisu Mohammed Lawal and Director of Educational Services, Dr. Ismail Aliyu Danmaraya.

The visits, which took place from 25th to 29th November, 2024 focused on engaging with key stakeholders in Borno and Yobe States.

During the week-long event, the team held discussions with representatives from several United Nations agencies, including the United Nations Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), UN High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) and UN Development Program (UNDP).

Other agencies included the UN Children Fund (UNICEF), International Organization for Migration (IOM), and UN Fund for Population Activities (UNFPA), among other government officials from various ministries and local community leaders.

The advocacy visits aimed to align MAAUN-AISD’s mission with the ongoing transition of development partners from humanitarian emergency responses to long-term, sustainable solutions for the region.

The MAAUN-AISD team was warmly welcomed by stakeholders, who praised the university’s academic reputation and its potential contributions to the region’s development.

They emphasized that MAAUN is dedicated to providing quality education, not only in the Northern region but across Nigeria as a whole.
