Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria on Monday, 12th May 2025, joined other countries across the globe in celebrating the International Mother’s Day.
The occasion, celebrated in grand style, was held at the School of Social and Management Sciences where it attracted students, academic and non academic staff members as well as other members of the university community.
Speaking at the occasion, the President of the university, Prof. (Dr.) Mohammad Israr lauded mothers especially staff members for their unwavering commitment towards ensuring proper upbringing of children.
“To our remarkable mothers who are staff members. I extend warmest wishes on this special Mother’s Day.
“Your dedication to both your families and the MAAUN is truly inspiring. You embody strength, love, and nurturing qualities that shape the lives of your children and our campus community,” he said.
He also commended mothers for their tireless effort and invaluable contribution in moulding the character of children,Thank you for being the pillars of our strength and sources of inspiration.
In his remark, the Vice President Administration, Dr. Habib Awais Abubakar emphasized the need for mothers to continue to pray for the well-being and upliftment of their children in life.
According to him, sustained mother’s prayer would enable children to actualise their dreams and achieve their full potential in life.
In her remark, the Head, Human Resource Unit, Hajia Maimuna S. Bello called on the management of the university to establish a day care or creche facility in the university for the children of nursing mothers.
She noted that establishing the facility would provide a safe and comfortable space for the children, allowing nursing mothers to work efficiently while ensuring the well-being of their children.
She appreciated the Founder of the university, Prof. Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo for consistently championing the empowerment of women by providing an environment where they can thrive, excell and lead.
She also commended the university management for taking the step to recognize mothers by celebrating mother’s Day for the first time in the history of the university.
Also speaking, the Vice President Campus Life, Dr. Garba Hamza stressed the need to give women, especially mothers, all the necessary respect in view of the significant role they play in moulding children to become useful members of the society or otherwise.
A cross-section of staff members who spoke during the occasion, applauded the Founder of the university, Prof. Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo for giving them the opportunity to honour motherhood and the role of mothers in the society which is the first of its kind.
Other management staff of the university that graced the event included Dr. Mahmoud Mukhtar Sa’id, Dean, School of Social and Management Sciences and Engr. Bashir Garba, Head, Career Guidance and Placement unit, among others.
