MAAUN Felicitates Bangladesh as it Celebrates Linguistic Heritage

Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN) has extended heartfelt congratulations to Bangladesh on the occasion of International Mother Language Day, observed on Saturday, 21st February 2026.

Delivering the message at a ceremony hosted by the Bangladesh High Commission in Abuja on Sunday, MAAUN President Prof. (Dr.) Mohammad Israr conveyed warm felicitations to the High Commissioner, Mr. Miah Mainul Kabir.

Prof. Israr paid tribute to the linguists and martyrs who gave their lives to establish Bengali as a language of dignity, respect, and pride.

He emphasized that language is more than a tool of communication—it is a powerful symbol of cultural identity and heritage.

“The mother tongue is the foundation of Bangladesh’s nationhood, and it must be preserved and protected at all costs.

“Today, we honor the brave souls who sacrificed their lives for the Bengali language. Shaheed Dibosh is not only a day of remembrance but also a day of pride,” he remarked.

The event also highlighted MAAUN’s growing international reputation, as the Ambassadors of the Philippines and Liberia expressed keen interest in visiting the university to explore avenues for collaboration and partnership.

Their enthusiasm reflects MAAUN’s expanding role in fostering academic and cultural ties across borders.
