The School of Computing at Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN), Kano, on Thursday, held a groundbreaking Final Year Students’ Project Exhibition and Award-Giving Ceremony, showcasing technological solutions developed by graduating students.
The event brought together university management, academic staff, students, and guests to celebrate innovation, creativity, and excellence in computing.
The exhibition featured an impressive collection of hardware and software projects designed to address real-world challenges across healthcare, transportation, education, security, and digital communication.
The Chairman of the Organising Committee, Assoc. Prof. Mu’azu Jibrin Musa, gave an overview of the exhibition, explaining that the programme was designed to provide final-year students with a platform to showcase their innovations, and present technology-driven solutions to societal challenges.
He encouraged the students to view the exhibition as the beginning of their journey as innovators and entrepreneurs.
In his address, the President of MAAUN, Prof. (Dr.) Mohammad Israr lauded the students for transforming innovative ideas into practical solutions through months of dedication, research, testing, and perseverance.
He emphasized that the exhibition was more than a display of academic projects, it was a testament to the University’s commitment to producing graduates capable of solving societal problems through technology.
Prof Israr also commended the academic staff and project supervisors for their unwavering commitment to mentoring students and nurturing a culture of innovation, critical thinking, and excellence within the School of Computing.
Also speaking, the Vice President Administration, Dr. Habib Awais Abubakar, commended the students for their creativity and ability to develop unique innovations.
He said their achievements reflected the value of the education they had received at MAAUN and assured them of brighter opportunities after graduation.
Before the pitching session, the Lead Judge, Prof. Abubakar Sadiq Haruna, explained the criteria for assessing the projects.
He said the panel would evaluate each presentation based on originality, innovation, technical implementation, functionality, presentation skills, relevance to societal needs, and the overall impact of the proposed solution.
Following the exhibition, each finalist pitched and defended their project before the panel of judges.

During the event, special recognition was also given to project supervisors whose mentorship contributed significantly to the success of the award-winning projects.
Assoc. Prof. Mu’azu Jibrin Musa received commendation for supervising five winning projects across both hardware and software categories, while Engr. Umar Yahaya Adamu was recognized for supervising one award-winning project.
The ceremony was attended by the Dean of the School of Social and Management Sciences, Prof. Mahmoud Mukhtar Said, the Head of the Human Resource Unit, Hajiya Maimuna Bello, Heads of Departments, faculty members, students, and other members of the University community.
Highlights of the event included the presentation of awards to the outstanding students and their supervisors.
