Times Higher Education’s (THE) Business Development Manager, Mr. Victor Okeugo, has hailed Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria as an institution with the potential to compete favourably with leading universities across the globe.

Times Higher Education (THE) is a globally respected organisation best known for its annual World University Rankings, which assess institutions across teaching, research, knowledge transfer, and international outlook.

The official made the remarks on Tuesday during a courtesy visit to MAAUN, where he held an extensive session with the Director of the Institute of Africa Higher Education Research and Innovation (IAHERI), Prof. Abubakar Sadiq Haruna.

The discussions centred on strategies for internationalisation, university rankings, and broader efforts to strengthen higher education.

Speaking during the visit, the THE representative echoed the importance of universities publicising their achievements, especially in areas of strength, to gain global visibility and recognition.

In his response, Prof. Abubakar Sadiq Haruna welcomed the official and reaffirmed MAAUN’s commitment to advancing quality education through research, innovation, and international partnerships.

He noted that MAAUN has recorded significant academic excellence across various fields within just a few years of its establishment.

As part of the visit, the official also paid a courtesy call on the Acting President of MAAUN, Prof. Ibrahim Maigari, during which he met with the VP Admin, Dr. Habib Awais Abubakar; the VP MAAUN Niger, Dr. Shuaibu Tanko; the Director of Internationalisation of Higher Education, Dr. Lawan Malami Goni; among other officials.
