Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN) has organized a virtual expert session as part of continued effort to enhance language proficiency and academic standards.
The event, conducted on Thursday, was themed “Innovative Language Testing and Assessment.”
The session was facilitated by Prof. Anwar Sajad, a distinguished English language lecturer at University of Technology and Applied Sciences, Ibra, Sultanate of Oman.
Prof. Sajad, who is an adjunct faculty member at MAAUN, shared his expertise on modern approaches to language testing and assessment.
During the session, Prof. Sajad presented an innovative assessment tool known as “Live Worksheet,” which aims to replace traditional pen-and-paper testing methods.
The tool enables students to participate in assessments through audio-based questions, promoting inclusivity and offering a more versatile means of evaluation.
Prof. Sajad further elaborated on the advantages and drawbacks of traditional assessment methods, highlighting the cost-effectiveness and time-saving features of “Live Worksheet.”
Additionally, he noted that the tool offers data-driven insights and serves as a robust mechanism for delivering feedback to educators.
To enhance understanding, the session included a practical demonstration in which MAAUN faculty members actively participated by utilizing the tool to answer questions.
After the demonstration, a question-and-answer session provided an opportunity for participants to engage with Prof. Sajad, gaining a deeper understanding of the tool’s practical applications in academic settings.
In his closing remarks, Dr. Abdullahi Garba expressed profound appreciation to Prof. Sajad for the insightful presentation.
He described the innovation as a significant milestone in academic assessment and reaffirmed MAAUN’s commitment to adopting cutting-edge tools that enhance teaching and learning experiences.
