Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN) hosted one of the largest online international workshops on Wednesday, attracting over 23,000 participants from more than 100 countries worldwide.
Held at the President’s Conference room, the seminar focused on research methodology and scientific writing, aiming to enhance the understanding of students, academics, and the general public on the fundamentals of research.
The workshop, which saw an unprecedented turnout, brought together scholars and professionals from diverse fields to engage in discussions about research methodology and scientific writing.
Three esteemed speakers, who also serve as adjunct faculty members at MAAUN, led extensive discussions on critical topics such as research ethics and the impact of artificial intelligence in academic writing.
Prof. Nada Ratkovic, from the University of Split, Croatia, delivered a presentation on the integration of artificial intelligence in research and scientific writing.
Prof. Nada spoke at length on the role of data science, artificial intelligence, and computing in academic research, particularly in the development of chatbots and virtual assistants.
She also highlighted innovations in pedagogy, demonstrating how AI is reshaping the research landscape and enhancing the efficiency of academic work.
In her presentation, Dr. Muthmainnah S., from the Universitas Asyariah Mandara, Sulawesi, Indonesia, discussed the role of artificial intelligence as a research writing assistant, highlighting its impact on modern academic work.
She unveiled the various digital tools that researchers can employ for proofreading, editing, and enhancing the quality of academic writing, underlining the increasing necessity of these tools in scientific research.
She, however, cautioned against the potential misuse of AI, emphasizing that critical thinking is vital to ensure that AI-assisted writing upholds originality, scholarly integrity, and rigor.
During a presentation, Prof. Rakhee Chaudhary from Career Point University in India discussed the importance of ethics in research methodology.
She emphasized that honesty and integrity, along with the responsible use of resources, are crucial factors for maintaining ethical standards in research endeavors.
Earlier in his opening remarks, the President of MAAUN, Prof. (Dr.) Mohammad Israr, expressed his satisfaction with the overwhelming response to the workshop.
He further highlighted the growing importance of research in driving innovation and progress in various fields, stressing the need for scholars to continuously refine their research methodologies and writing skills.
In his closing remarks, the Vice President Administration, Dr. Habib Awais Abubakar, expressed appreciation to the speakers for their enlightening presentations and to the participants for their active engagement.
He reiterated the significance of integrating AI into research while maintaining ethical and academic integrity.
