Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Intellectus, an organization based in Angola as part of continued efforts by the university to foster internationalisation for academic excellence.
The signing of the MoU which was conducted virtually on Friday, 29th August, 2025, was witnessed by officials of the two institutions.
The President of MAAUN, Prof. (Dr.) Mohammad Israr signed the document on behalf of his university while Dr. Viadmir Varela Semedo, Chairman of the Management Board of Intellectus signed on behalf of the organization.
In his remark during the signing of the document, Dr. Semedo, who gave an overview of the organization, said there’s similarities between MAAUN and the Intellectus which could develop into a kind of cooperation that would be of mutual benefit to both institutions.
He expressed hope that the partnership would go a long way in advancing research and innovation with a view to promoting academic excellence.
Also speaking, the President of MAAUN, Prof. Israr who also gave an overview of MAAUN, said the university was established in 2022 and currently has students from other countries including India, Pakistan, China, Turkey, Palestine, Ethiopia, Niger Republic, Mali, Chad, Sudan and Saudi Arabia among others.
According to him, the MoU is expected to promote academic excellence, research, and the holistic development of students of both institutions.
The Parties agreed to explore avenues in which they may jointly develop projects and programs that would not only enhance the educational experience for students but would also contribute significantly to the advancement of knowledge and research in each respective field.
The parties have also greed to explore the possibility of joint Conferences and Workshops, by co-hosting conferences, seminars, and workshops that bring together scholars, researchers, and industry experts from both institutions.
The signing of the MoU would also give both parties the opportunity to establish a framework to jointly cooperate towards sourcing education and career solutions, as well as management solutions for the development training
Among other management staff of MAAUN that witnessed the signing of the document were the Vice President Administration, Dr. Habib Awais Abubakar and Director, Internationalization of Higher Education, Dr. Lawan Malami Goni.
