Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria has once again shown its commitment to shaping future leaders by organizing a special leadership seminar for graduating students.
The seminar, titled “Beyond Your Degree: You Cannot Be in the Picture and See the Frame at the Same Time,” focused on preparing students for life beyond academic qualifications.
The seminar, held on Wednesday at the Professor Abubakar Adamu Rasheed Twin Lecture Theatre, brought together management staff, faculty members, and final-year students.
The event provided a platform for meaningful discussions on leadership, purpose, and personal development beyond the classroom.
The seminar featured Prof. Mahamouda Salouhou, a renowned scholar and Director of the European Center for Leadership and Entrepreneurship Education (ECLEE).
In his keynote address, Prof. Salouhou described a university degree as a starting point, encouraging students to reflect deeply and design their lives and careers intentionally.
He stressed the importance of self-awareness, creativity, adaptability, and a growth mindset, noting that professional certifications and practical skills are also essential for career relevance.
According to him, Africa’s main challenge is not a lack of talent, but limited practical skills and innovative thinking needed to solve real-world problems.
Prof. Salouhou also spoke during a one-day pre-convocation seminar for MAAUN staff, titled “Designing Minds, Not Just Degrees,” where he urged lecturers to make teaching more practical and industry-focused.
The seminar reaffirmed MAAUN’s vision of producing graduates who are not only academically sound but also prepared to lead, innovate, and contribute meaningfully to society.
