In line with its commitment to provide quality education and foster innovative teaching methodologies, Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN) has organized an expert session titled “Flipped Language Classroom”.
The virtual event, held on Thursday, brought together educators from various departments to explore innovative ways to engage students and improve their learning experience.
The session was led by Dr. Prodhad Mahbub Ibna Seraj, an Associate Professor in the Department of English at American International University, Bangladesh (BELTA).
Dr. Mahbub, with his vast academic background, delivered a detailed lecture on the Flipped Classroom model, discussing its four key principles and how it contrasts with traditional teaching methods.
Dr. Mahbub, who is an adjunct faculty member at MAAUN, explored the essential resources needed to implement this model, highlighting the role of digital tools, pre-recorded lectures, and interactive content in enhancing student learning.
He explained that teachers need to create engaging instructional videos, design interactive quizzes, and use online discussion forums to facilitate active learning outside the classroom.
He emphasized that the flipped classroom model is student-centered, allowing learners to take an active role in their education.
Dr. Mahbub highlighted the importance of digital platforms in supporting the flipped classroom approach, noting that the platforms provide a structured way for teachers to organize lessons, track student progress, and foster collaboration.
Additionally, Dr. Mahbub outlined some of the common pitfalls associated with this approach, such as resistance to change from both teachers and students, the challenge of ensuring student accountability, and the need for adequate technological infrastructure to support the method effectively.
After the lecture, there was a question and answer session which allowed faculty members to engage directly with Prof. Mahbub, asking questions that added depth to the discussion and provided further insight into the practical application of the flipped classroom approach.
In his closing remarks, Dr. Abdullahi Garba, Director of General Studies, expressed gratitude to Prof. Mahbub for his informative presentation and praised the participants for their active involvement.
