No fewer than 500 girls drawn from diverse communities in Kano State are expected to participate in the MATA MMG Girls’ Empowerment Program to be hosted by the Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN).
The initiative, known as Matters Arising to Address Womanhood, is designed to equip adolescent girls and young women with vital skills, digital literacy and leadership training.
The decision by MAAUN to host the event is borne out of its unwavering commitment to promoting girl-child development.
Speaking during a meeting with the Management staff of MAAUN, the MATA MMG Program Coordinator, Fauziya Ahmed called for collaboration between the two organizations.
She said the partnership would not only promote girl-child development, but would go a long way in reinforcing the university’s role as champion of educational and social advancement in Kano State and beyond.
She commended MAAUN for its commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and character development, noting that the university’s dedication to nurturing future leaders aligns strongly with the vision of the MATA MMG Program.
In his remarks, the President of MAAUN, Prof. (Dr.) Mohammad Israr assured MATA of the university’s readiness to partner MATA to promote girl-child development in the state and beyond.
According to him, the university remains committed to supporting initiatives that are designed to promote socio-economic status of women and youths, especially the vulnerable in society.
Also speaking, Vice President Administration, Dr. Habib Awais Abubakar, commended MATA for their transformative initiative, assuring that MAAUN would give them the necessary support to ensure success of the program.
