Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Al-Maarif Consultancy, Sultanate of Oman as part of an effort to enhance various aspects of academic and institutional development at the university.
The President of MAAUN, Prof. (Dr.) Mohammad Israr signed the MoU on behalf of the university while Dr. Abood Hamed Al-Sawahi, the Chief Executive Officer at the Al-Maarif Consultancy, a higher education consultancy firm, signed on behalf of the organization.
Speaking during the signing of the document, Prof. Israr said the MoU, which has four areas of scope, is aimed at leveraging the expertise of the firm in enhancing academic and institutional development at MAAUN.
He listed the four potential areas of the collaboration as accreditation and quality assurance, strategic planning and governance, Faculty development and institutional reviews.
“Al Maarif Consultancy firm will provide advisory services and support to MAAUN in matters related to accreditation processes and quality assurance in line with international standards.
“The firm will also assist the university in developing and refining strategic plans, governance structures, and policies that align with best practices in higher education,” Prof. Israr said.
According to him, the collaboration would enhance teaching methodologies, research capabilities, and overall professional growth of the University.
He said in addition, the firm will conduct periodic institutional reviews, providing constructive feedback and recommendations to help the university continually improve its academic and administrative functions.
In his remark, the CEO of the Consultancy firm, Dr. Abood Hamed congratulated MAAUN management for its commitment to ensure academic excellence in the university.
He expressed hope that the partnership would yield the desired result by providing the much needed development in the university.
Also speaking at the occasion, the Vice President Administration, Dr. Habib Abubakar Awais said the signing of the MoU would open the doors for extensive collaboration between the two organizations.
“Looking at the areas of collaboration, Iam certain positive things will come in the near future,” Dr. Awais said.
in her contribution, the Associate CEO of Al-Maarif, Dr. Tess Goodliffe said she was happy to be part of the MoU which is aimed at driving the university to greatness.
She lauded the management of the university for striving to make the institution best among equals and urged them to sustain the tempo.
In his vote of thanks, the Head, International Office, MAAUN Kano, Engr. Bashir Muhammad Garba expressed the readiness of the university to ensure full implementation of the MoU.
He noted that the university, which is three years old, needs the experience of Al-Maarif for guidance to enable it to become one of the best private universities not only in Nigeria but in the African continent.
