MAAUN tasks Bureau of Statistics to introduce diploma program

The Kano State Bureau of Statistics (KSBS) has been called upon to introduce Diploma and Certificate courses to enhance statistical literacy of the public.

The Founder and President, MAAUN Group of Universities, Prof Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, made the call when he received the Statistician General of the Bureau, Dr. Aliyu Isa Aliyu, who paid him a courtesy visit on Monday.

KSBS is a government agency responsible for the collection, refinement and dissemination of statistical data across various sectors in Kano State.

Prof. Gwarzo said introducing the two programs would give students the opportunity to acquire knowledge on the use of statistical data in research and planning.

The eduprenuer enjoined the government at all levels to invest more on education for the promotion of the sector in the state and the country at large.

He said there was an urgent need for the government to invest more resources in the education sector in order to give more youths, especially in the northern part of the country, the opportunity to acquire quality education.

Prof. Gwarzo also stressed the need for a good foundation at the basic level as according to him having a good grade from the primary and secondary schools is necessary so as to ensure the production of highly qualified graduates that could compete with their counterparts across the globe.

“We need to equip our primary and secondary schools with the best facilities. So, we should be able to invest more resources in education to have a good foundation for future generations,” he said.

Prof. Gwarzo further called for collaboration between the university and the office of the Statistician General, pointing out that without collaboration MAAUN would not have been where it’s today.

He disclosed that MAAUN has so far entered into collaboration with over 150 universities across Europe, USA, Asia and Africa.

Earlier in his remark, Dr. Aliyu said the agency plans to conduct a survey on Almajiris and out-of-school children in Kano in order to inspire policy actions that would address their social exclusion in the society.

He, therefore, called on the Founder of the university to support the agency with an operational vehicle that could be used for the execution of the project.

He appreciated Prof. Gwarzo and the management team of the university for granting him and his entourage audience.

During the visit, the Statistician General was accompanied by some management staff of the Bureau.
