Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN) has expressed its willingness to partner with the Radio Nigeria Pyramid FM, Kano, on training of staff of the station.

The Acting President of MAAUN, Prof. Ahmad Ibrahim Maigari gave the assurance when the newly appointed General Manager of the station, Dr. Garba Ubale Danbatta paid a courtesy visit to the university on Tuesday.

He said the collaboration would go a long way in enhancing the journalism profession in view of the critical role the media plays in checking the multi-faceted challenges bedeviling the country.

Prof. Maigari said the university was ready to partner with the station in the areas of training and student internships as well as other areas that would be of mutual benefit for both the students of Mass Comm and staff of the radio station.

He thanked the GM and his management team for the visit and assured him of the university’s support whenever the need arises.

Earlier in his remarks, Dr. Garba Ubale Danbatta, called for a strong collaboration with the university’s Mass Communication department to enhance the journalism profession and check the spread of fake news not only in Kano State but across the country.

The GM added that the proposed partnership would ensure the development of the profession and impact positively on the staff of the station and students.

Dr. Danbatta commended the Founder of the university, Prof. Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, for single handedly establishing four universities and for his philanthropic activities.

He specifically lauded Prof. Gwarzo for donating a seven storey building to North West Development Commission (NWDC), to facilitate its immediate take-off, describing the gesture as a mark of patriotism.

Also in his brief remarks, the Vice President Administration, Dr. Habib Awais Abubakar thanked the new GM for identifying with the university, stressing that the university looks forward to fruitful collaboration with the station..

Among other management staff of MAAUN that were present during the courtesy visit included Director Academic Planning and Quality Assurance, Dr. Nura A. Yaro, Head of Human Resource Unit, Hajia Maimuna S. Bello, among others.

The General Manager and entourage were later conducted round the Mass Comm Department where they inspected the studio.
