The Maintenance Unit of Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria has organized a two-day orientation for cleaners to equip them with essential safety and emergency response skills.
The training, held at the university premises, focused on the use of fire extinguishers, safe handling of electrical appliances, and the operation of changeover switches during emergencies.
Participants were also sensitized on basic preventive measures against fire and electrical hazards.
Speaking during the exercise, the Head of the Maintenance Unit, Mal Zaraddeen Musa Sulaiman, said the exercise was part of MAAUN’s commitment to creating a safe and conducive working environment.
He noted that cleaners play a vital role in maintaining the university’s facilities and should therefore be trained to act swiftly in emergency situations.
During the practical sessions, participants learned how to operate fire extinguishers, recognize faulty electrical connections, and respond to incidents before the arrival of technical experts.
They were also encouraged to report issues promptly and work as a team to maintain safety in the university.
The initiative was part of the university’s sustained effort to promote professionalism, responsibility, and safety awareness across its campus.
