More than 11,000 participants attend MAAUN int’l workshop on Research Informatics

Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria on Monday, hosted a one-day online international workshop centred on the theme “Research Informatics: A Module of Research Methodology.”

Held virtually, the event aimed to broaden the understanding of students, academics, and the general public on contemporary research practices.

In his remark, the President of MAAUN, Prof. Mohammad Israr, said a total of 11,402 people registered for the workshop from 103 countries.

The seminar featured three distinguished speakers, each a respected expert in their field, who delivered engaging presentations on various aspects of research informatics.

Professor Nada Ratkovic, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Qualitative Methods, University of Split, Croatia, opened the discussion by emphasizing the significance of the data life cycle in research informatics.

She elaborated on the various tools available for research informatics, the benefits of digital tools, and the evolving role of data in modern research methodologies.

Her presentation highlighted how digital tools can enhance data management, accuracy, and efficiency in research.

In her paper, Ms. Rana Khan, who is an Assistant Professor at the School of Foundation and General Education, Canadian College in Kuwait, focused on the foundational aspects of research informatics.

She emphasized the importance of identifying a research problem or question, which she described as the cornerstone of any meaningful research endeavor.

According to Khan, selecting a well-defined and relevant research question is essential to effectively guide the research process and ensure impactful outcomes.

Also in her presentation, Dr. Megha Bhushan, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Languages and Systems at the University of Seville, Spain, wrapped up the workshop by providing a detailed examination of open science.

She discussed the principles and the benefits of open science to the research community, such as enhanced transparency, reproducibility, and collaboration across disciplines.

 

In her closing remarks, Hajiya Maimuna S. Bello, Head, Human Resource Unit of MAAUN, expressed her appreciation to the speakers and all the participants, both offline and online, for taking their time to attend the workshop.
