Officials from the TechnoServe on Thursday engaged some selected final year students of Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria in an interactive session on possible areas of their business proposals ahead of the training program scheduled for next month.
TechnoServe is currently undertaking a project, Skilling Adolescent and Young Women on Entrepreneurship and Employment (SAY-WEE) under the sponsorship of United Nations Children’s Fund, (UNICEF).
The team was led by Fareena Shujauddin, Consultant, TechnoServe from the United States of America.
Others in her entourage were Habibat Abdulaziz, Enterprise Development Advisor, SAY-WEE TechnoServe, and Aisha Umar Sulaiman, Measurement/Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist.
Speaking on the program, Shujauddin said the essence of the interactive session is to better understand how existing training and support systems could be strengthened to enable better outcomes for the young students entering the workforce or starting micro-enterprises.
According to her, the students are expected to receive training in digital, soft skills, entrepreneurial, and business skills to enhance their workforce participation and self-employment prospects.
She expressed appreciation for the way and manner the students were able to make their presentations by participating fully in the interactive session.
During the interactive session, the team had an insightful discussion with the students on their various entrepreneurship proposals as well as anticipated challenges.
Earlier in an interactive session with the Vice President Administration, Dr. Habib Awais Abubakar, who chaired the session, explained that MAAUN has a robust training model that integrates an efficient and dedicated Learning Management System and hybrid learning approach.
Dr. Awais further explained that the Founder/President MAAUN Group of Universities, Prof. Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo has hugely invested in the education sector, thereby providing an enabling teaching and learning environment.
This, according to him, advances students and staff developments, fosters innovations, facilitates knowledge sharing, and provides flexible and engaging learning experiences.
In her closing remark, Dr. Zara Adam, Acting Chair of Business Administration Department, commended TechnoServe for selecting MAAUN as one of the universities to benefit from the program, which would enable its students
to acquire the needed skills and knowledge they require in entrepreneurship ventures.
