MoU Implementation: MAAUN hosts expert session on Navigating Multi cultural workplace

In a renewed effort to facilitate the implementation of its Memorandum of Understandings, (MoUs), Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria organized an expert session on Tuesday titled “Navigating the Multicultural Workplace.”

The virtual event was led by Prof. John Walsh, who is an Associate Dean and Director of English Language Programs at the International College, Krirk University, Thailand.

Recall that earlier in July, MAAUN and Krirk University signed an MoU on cultural and research cooperation, including joint conferences and workshops.

Prof. Walsh, a respected academic and researcher, shared his insights into the complexities of working in a multicultural environment.

During the session, he examined the key dimensions of cultural differences that impact workplace interactions.

He highlighted how variations in cultural backgrounds, values, and communication styles can either enhance collaboration and creativity or lead to challenges.

Dr. Walsh also addressed common issues in multicultural workplaces, such as discrimination, and emphasized the need for effective management strategies to tackle these challenges.

According to him, creating an inclusive environment where all team members feel valued is essential for success in any multicultural organization.

The paper provided practical approaches to managing diversity and promoting positive workplace culture.

At the conclusion of the session, esteemed participants, including President Mohammad Israr, Vice President Dr. Habib Awais, and Director of IAHERI, Prof. Abubakar Sadiq, shared their perspectives and experiences regarding issues related to multicultural workplaces, both nationally and internationally, and offered suggestions on ways to address them.

In his closing remarks, Engr. Bashir Garba, Head of International Office at MAAUN, expressed satisfaction with Dr. Walsh’s insightful presentation while at the same time applauding MAAUN for organizing such valuable lectures, in view of their role in enhancing academic progress and partnerships.

The session was attended by several notable figures, including the Vice Chancellor of Franco British International University, (FBIU), Prof. Abdullahi Sabo, Registrar of FBIU, Mr Agwaza Bemdoo, Head of Human Resource, MAAUN, Hajiya Maimunat Bello and Dr. Samira Hassan.
