The MAAUN Group of Universities has restated its commitment to producing highly qualified medical laboratory scientists through quality training, research, and innovation.
The assurance was given by the Founder and President of MAAUN Group, Prof. Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, during the opening ceremony of the 27th Annual Scientific Conference of the Guild of Medical Laboratory Directors (GMLD), held on Wednesday at the Afficent Event Centre, Kano.
Represented by the Vice President, Campus Life, Dr. Hamza Garba, Prof. Gwarzo said the four universities under the MAAUN Group remain strong partners of medical laboratory scientists in Nigeria through their academic and practical training programs.
Prof. Gwarzo, who also served as Chairman of the occasion, expressed appreciation to the GMLD for giving him the honor to preside over the conference—the first ever to be held in Kano and the wider core northern region.
He further called on the Federal Government to address the challenges facing medical laboratory scientists in the country, stressing that their role in providing accurate diagnosis is crucial to reducing high mortality rates in the health sector.
In his remarks, the National President of the GMLD, Dr. Samuel Fele, said Prof. Gwarzo’s appointment as chairman of the event was a recognition of his remarkable contributions to the growth of medical laboratory science both within and outside Nigeria.
“It is through your academic leadership, commitment to excellence, and numerous philanthropic interventions that you have become an exemplary figure worthy of this role,” Dr. Fele stated.
He also praised Prof. Gwarzo for his unwavering commitment to advancing the cause of medical laboratory science in Nigeria.
The conference brought together key stakeholders, professionals, academicians and policy makers to explore pathways toward reducing reliance on imported laboratory equipment, reagents, and expertise in promoting indigenous capacities and homegrown technologies.
