Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria and Nile University of Science and Technology, Somalia, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to enhance research and innovation for academic excellence.
The virtual engagement was aimed at strengthening academic cooperation, research collaboration, staff development, and student exchange opportunities.
The signing of the MoU which signifies MAAUN’s commitment to partnering with other universities across the globe also aimed at strengthening academic cooperation and promoting research and innovation.
The MoU covers key areas of cooperation including exchange of faculty professors, researchers, students, publications, academic programmes and research projects.
The agreement is also expected to provide opportunities for exchange of faculty members, researchers as well as exchange of undergraduate and graduate students and scholarship opportunities among other key areas of the partnership.
Earlier in his remarks, the President of MAAUN, Prof. (Dr.) Mohammad Israr, said the university which was established in 2022, remained the second best private university in Nigeria.
He noted that MAAUN, which runs 22 academic programmes, is one of the leading private universities reputed as a highly sustainable institution committed to academic excellence and innovation.
The Vice-Chancellor of NUST welcomed participants and introduced the university. He expressed appreciation to MAAUN for hosting the engagement and facilitating the signing of the MoU, noting that the partnership marks an important milestone in advancing higher education collaboration across Africa.
In his remarks, Dr. Mumin Jafar, who gave a brief of the NUST, explained that the university was established in 2017.
He thanked the President of MAAUN and other management staff of the university for their warm reception and openness toward the partnership.
The Vice President Admin of MAAUN, Dr. Habib Awais Abubakar emphasized the university’s commitment to strategic collaborations, noting that MAAUN recognizes the importance of partnerships in creating opportunities, unlocking potential, promoting academic excellence across Africa and beyond,
According to him, the university remains committed to empowering students with relevant skills, and enhancing staff development and described the partnership with NUST as both timely and beneficial.
Also speaking, the Head of the International Office, Engr. Bashir Garba, called for the swift implementation of the provisions contained in the MoU to ensure that the intended benefits are realized without delay.
Also contributing, Mrs. Janvhi expressed appreciation for the collaboration and underscored the importance of future physical engagements between both institutions to strengthen relationships and translate the agreement into practical outcomes.
