The Federal Government through the National Universities Commission (NUC) on Friday, 9th June, 2023, issued operating license to Canadian University of Nigeria, Abuja and Franco-British International University, Kaduna.
It could be recalled that the Federal Executive Council on Monday, 15th May, 2023, at its sitting approved the establishment of the two new Universities which are privately owned by Prof. Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo.
The licenses were presented to the Proprietor of the Universities, Prof. Adamu Gwarzo during a ceremony held at the headquarters of the NUC in Abuja.
Speaking shortly after receiving the licences, Prof. Gwazo, who doubles as the Founder of Maryam Abacha American Universities of Nigeria and Niger-Maradi, assured NUC of his commitment to ensure strict adherence to all the provisions in the NUC guidelines for the promotion of academic excellence.
He commended the Federal Government for issuing the license to the new Universities saying the gesture is a clear indication of the confidence the government has in him.
Prof. Gwarzo, who expressed appreciation to all those who contributed towards achieving the feat, pledged to ensure the new Universities operate within the guidelines set out by the commission to enable them to provide quality education.
On his part, the Executive Secretary of NUC, Prof. Abubakar Adamu Rasheed, congratulated the proprietor and founder of the Universities, Prof. Adamu Gwarzo for achieving the feat.
He disclosed that the commission has developed a code of governance for private universities, which is expected to address the identified governance challenges bedeviling smooth operation of many private universities in the country.
Meanwhile, the President of Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN), Prof. (Dr.) Mohammad Israr has congratulated the Founder and Chairman Governing Council of the University, Prof. Gwarzo for the great achievement.
During the event, Prof. Gwarzo was in company of Director Academic Planning and Quality Assurance of MAAUN Nigeria, Dr. Nura A. Yaro and some other management staff of the University.
