Freshmen Orientation: MAAUN to introduce Postgraduate scholarship for best students

Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria is to introduce a scholarship program for the best graduating students of the university to study at the postgraduate level.

The Founder and President, MAAUN Group of Universities, Prof. Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo made the disclosure at the 2023/2024 Freshmen (newly admitted students) Orientation Program held at the Prof. Abubakar Adamu Rasheed Twin- Theatre on Tuesday, 19th and Wednesday, 20th December, 2023.

He said the scholarship scheme, when introduced, would give students of the university who graduate with best results, the opportunity to pursue masters degrees in the university.

“Students who graduate with first class will be offered scholarships to study at the masters level in the university,” Prof. Gwarzo said.

He, therefore, urged the new students to concentrate on their studies in addition to being responsible while stressing the role of morality in assisting the students to achieve their desired career goals.

The Founder further warned the students against acts capable of denting their image and that of the university pointing out the university has zero tolerance to drug abuse and other social vices.

He cautioned that any students found engaging in drug abuse, alcoholism and smoking would be shown the way out.

Earlier in his welcome address, the President of the university, Prof. (Dr.) Mohammad Israr, congratulated the new students for securing admission into the prestigious university and thanked them for choosing to be a part of the MAAUN family.

He said the primary purpose of the orientation is to help the new students understand the nature of the university, the educational opportunities available to them, and the central objective of the university as an academic enterprise.

He, therefore, charged them to uphold certain basic principles which include; respect for the rights of others, honesty and integrity in all dealings and commitment to the pursuit of excellence.

Prof. Israr further charged the Freshmen to live a responsible life and avoid risky behaviors.

During the orientation exercise, several presentations were made to acquaint the Freshmen with the general operations of the university including American Education System/ Students Conduct on Campus, by Prof. Abubakar Sadiq Haruna, Director, Institute of Africa Higher Education, Research and Innovation (IAHERI).

Other presentations made were on An Overview of MAAUN Academic Activities, Use of Library and MAAUN Zero Tolerance Policies to Drugs by officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) among others.

In his vote of thanks, the Vice President Administration, Dr. Habib Abubakar Awais, thanked the management staff who made presentations during the two day program.

He also thanked all those who made sure that the two day orientation exercise was not only hitch-free but successful.
