Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria has expressed its willingness to partner with the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to promote a zero-tolerance policy on drug abuse both within the university and throughout the state.
The President of MAAUN, Prof. (Dr.) Mohammad Israr, made the disclosure during a courtesy visit to the office of the Kano State Commander of the NDLEA on Thursday.
Accompanying the President were, the Vice President Administration, Dr. Habib Awais Abubakar, and Vice President Campus Life, Dr Hamza Garba.
Prof. Israr urged the NDLEA to raise awareness levels among students and provide training for MAAUN staff on strategies for identifying drug addiction.
The President also requested the Agency to provide drug detection equipment to assist in the fight against drug-related activities.
In his remarks, Dr. Awais reiterated the importance of the proposed partnership given the societal risks associated with drug abuse.
He acknowledged the agency’s efforts in supporting MAAUN’s effort of becoming a drug-free zone
Also speaking, the Vice President Campus Life, Dr. Hamza Garba, expressed gratitude for the warm welcome and assured the agency of the university’s commitment to ensuring the success of the collaboration.
In his response, the NDLEA State Commander, Mr. Abubakar Idris Ahmad, expressed appreciation to the delegation for their visit and commended MAAUN for its exemplary commitment to a zero-tolerance policy regarding drug abuse on campus and in the surrounding community.
The Commander stated that the NDLEA would collaborate with MAAUN and relevant security agencies to enforce this zero-tolerance stance against drug abuse.
Mr. Ahmad praised MAAUN’s admission process, which prioritizes character, and affirmed the NDLEA’s readiness to partner with the university to uphold and sustain its zero-tolerance policy on drug abuse.
