Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria, Kano flags off Students\’Week Program

The President of Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria, (MAAUN), Kano, Prof. (Dr.) Mohammad Israr, has on Monday 5th September, 2022, flagged off the maiden Students\’ Week Program of the University at Ibrahim Usman Yakasai Sports Complex.

The week-long program kick-started with football match among the students of the four existing Schools of the university.

In his opening remarks, Prof. (Dr.) Mohammad Israr, stressed the importance of the sporting activities as it plays a crucial role in the physical and mental development of students.

He enjoined the students to make the best use of activities to develop their physical fitness and stamina and prayed for the success of the program throughout the period.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Vice President Campus Life, Dr. Musa Lawal Jibia, said the event was designed to serve as an entertainment activity to enable students demonstrate their talents and skills in the various sporting competitions presented in the list of events during week.

He implored the students to frequent the Deanery of Students Affairs of the university to channel their complaints for guidance, saying that the division is always ready to attend to them.

Also speaking, the Vice President Administration of MAAUN, Dr. Habib Awais Abubakar, who said the event is first of its kind in the university, also urged the students to imbibe the spirit of sportsmanship and discipline while participating during the program.

Dr. Awais Abubakar expressed appreciation to the Deanery for introducing the event, which according to him, would offer students an emotional break from their stressful academic engagement.

The football match was first played between students of school of Social and Management Sciences (SMS) and that of Health Sciences where students of SMS beat students of Health Sciences 4-2.

The second match was played between students of Nursing Sciences and that of School of Computing which ended 8-0 against students of Nursing Sciences.

The activities lined up in the week-long program include cooking feast, English drama and poetry presentation. Others are Old School Show, Cultural Display/Indian, Colour Display and Novelty Football Match between MAAUN Staff and MAAUN Pioneers.
