Morgan State University Honors Prof. Gwarzo with Distinguished Scholarship Award

Morgan State University in the United States of America, has honored the Founder and President of MAAUN Group of Universities, Prof. Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo with a Recognition Award of Distinguished Scholarship, Leadership, and Edupreneurship 2025.

The certificate of award and achievement was signed by the Executive Director of Global Partnerships Africa, Professor Hakeem I. Tijjani.

Prof. Gwarzo who doubles as the President, Association of African Private Universities (AAPU), was also recognised as the 2025 Distinguished African Eduprenuer and Uncommon Endowment for Human Capacity Development.

The award ceremony, which was conducted virtually on Wednesday, 1st January, 2025, coincided with Prof. Gwarzo’s 47th birthday anniversary.

Speaking at the event, Prof. Hakeem Tijjani hailed Prof. Gwarzo as an exceptional educator and philanthropist.

“We are here to celebrate an edupreneur and philanthropist, uncommon in the history of our nation,” he said.

Prof. Tijjani further commended Prof. Gwarzo’s relentless efforts in advancing education and shaping future leaders.

In their separate remarks, the two guest speakers, Dr. Abdul-Malik Maleka and Dr. Matthew Ojo, commended Prof. Gwarzo’s significant contributions to global education and development initiatives.

They also praised the Office of Global Partnership Africa, a division of the International Affairs Office of Morgan State University, for identifying and honoring such a remarkable individual.

In his remark, Dr. Habib Awais Abubakar, who accepted the award on behalf of Prof. Gwarzo, described the awardee as an advocate of societal transformation.

“This award is a testimony to what he has achieved and will serve as a great motivation for him because the world is recognizing his efforts.

“He is on the right path, and we pray to Almighty Allah to grant him good health and energy to continue pursuing his vision of educating one million people and beyond,” Dr. Habib said.

He also expressed gratitude to the organizers and presenters of the award, as the award presentation coincided with Prof. Gwarzo’s birthday, a celebration of his remarkable contributions.

During the formal virtual presentation of the award, Dr. Hauwa W. Aminu presented the Certificate while Dr. Toyin Ashonibare presented the Plaque.

Among other personalities that witnessed the virtual award ceremony were the MAAUN President, Prof. (DR.) Mohammad Israr and Vice Chancellor of Franco-British International University (FBIU), Kaduna, Prof. Abdullahi Muhammad Sabo.

Others were the Vice Chancellor of NorthWest University, Sokoto, Prof. Ahmed Maigari Ibrahim and Director, Institute of Africa Higher Education Research and Innovation (IAHERI), Prof. Abubakar Sadiq Haruna, among others.
