MoU: A Team From Uganda Varsity Visits MAAUN, discusses implementation procedures

A team from Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) led by the Vice Rector (Academic Affairs) Dr. Jamil Serwanga paid a visit to Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN), Kano on Tuesday, 5th March, 2024.

The President, MAAUN Group of Universities, Prof. Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo and some management staff of the university received the team.

In his remarks, Prof. Gwarzo stressed the significance of collaboration particularly on capacity building as it will go a long way in promoting research for the development of Africa.

“We should have a practical collaboration that can start immediately. It’s important we have collaboration on building capacity because it is very important for any university in Africa,” he said.

According to him, there was also a need for the two institutions to collaborate on staff training and student exchange so as to promote academic excellence.

Prof. Gwarzo, who described IUIU as one of the African universities with a bright future, commended the team for the visit and expressed the readiness of MAAUN to ensure effective implementation of the MoU that had earlier been signed for the benefit of the two universities.

Recall that MAAUN and IUIU had on 28th March, 2023, signed a Memorandum of Understanding on various areas of Research and Development.

On his part, the Vice Rector (Academic Affairs) IUIU, Dr. Jamil Serwanga who was accompanied by Academic Registrar of IUIU, Dr. Halima Wakabi Akbar, applauded Prof. Gwarzo for investing a lot in the university.

During the visit, the team was conducted round some places including the Murtala Mohammed library, Professor Abubakar Adamu Rasheed Twin Lecture Theatre, Students hostels and the Senate building among other places.

While addressing students at the Twin Lecture Theatre, Dr. Serwanga enjoined the students to make the best use of the opportunity provided by the university to learn skills and contribute to the development of Nigeria and Africa.

Dr. Wakabi Akbar expressed happiness with the large number of female students in the university and appreciated Prof. Gwarzo for giving the girl-child the opportunity to study in the university.

Other officials from the IUIU include Imran Ahmad, Assistant Lecturer, Ismail Yusulmus, Officer incharge of International Students, Kabiru Getso Haruna, Executive Secretary, Kano State Scholarship Board and Magaji Babawo, Executive Secretary, SUBEB, Bauchi.
