My ambition will not be complete until I establish a university in Gwarzo, says Prof. Adamu Gwarzo

The Founder and Chairman Governing Council of Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria and Niger, Franco-British International University, Kaduna and Canadian University of Nigeria, Abuja, Prof. Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo has said that his ambition in life will not be complete until he establish a university in Gwarzo.

He made the declaration when a delegation from the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) led by the Education Secretary of Gwarzo Local Government Education Authority (LGEA), Alhaji Osman Adamu Kutama paid him a courtesy call at his office in MAAUN Kano.

He said when established, the University would partner with the Government Girl Junior Secondary School that had just been named after him with a view to upgrading it to the status of a senior secondary school in addition to providing scholarships to students of the school.

This, he noted would give students the opportunity to further their studies into the various institutions of higher learning across the country and beyond.

According to him, establishing a university in Gwarzo would give many qualified candidates from the area the opportunity to acquire university education, to improve their chances of becoming what they want to become in life.

Prof. Gwarzo, who doubles as the President of Association of African Private Universities (AAPU) said he is committed towards the establishment of the university so as to make Gwarzo a centre of learning.

Earlier, the Education Secretary had told Prof. Gwarzo that the delegation was in the University to convey the decision taken by the Gwarzo LGEA to name Government Girls Junior Secondary School, Toshon Garu after him.

He disclosed that the school will now be called and address as Professor Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo Government Girls Junior Secondary School, Tsohon Garu.

Kutama said the decision to name the school after Prof. Gwarzo was in recognition of his immense contribution to the development of education not only in Gwarzo LGA, Kano State and Nigeria, but in the entire African continent.

According to him, Prof. Gwarzo deserved the honor in view of his commitment towards assisting the less privileged through his numerous philanthropic services in the society.

He added that the decision to name the school after Prof. Gwarzo was also in recognition of his effort towards providing scholarships to indigenes of Gwarzo in addition to support and assistance he has been providing the less privileged in the the area.

“The decision to name GGJSS Tsohon Tudu after Professor Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo was taken during a meeting held at Gwarzo LGEA on Monday, 17th July, 2023,” the Education Secretary said.

Meanwhile, the delegation has also presented a letter of commendation to Prof. Gwarzo in recognition of his great effort towards improving teaching and learning in Gwarzo local government area.

Among other officials that accompanied the Education Secretary to the visit, were the principal of the school, Hajia Bilkisu Isah Gwarzo and her Vice principal, Alhaji Adamu Umar Faruka as well as the officer in charge of Guidance and Counselling, Alhaji Ibrahim Lawan Usman.
