Prof. Gwarzo Honoured with Thabo Mbeki Leadership Award

The President, MAAUN Group of Universities, Prof. Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, has received the prestigious Thabo Mbeki Award for Excellence in Leadership.

The award was presented by UNESCO in partnership with the University of Texas, USA, and the Toyin Falola Foundation.

Prof. Gwarzo was recognized for his significant contributions to university education in Nigeria and his strong commitment to the development of Africa.

The ceremony took place during the 14th Toyin Falola International Conference on Africa and the African Diaspora, held from July 1 to July 3, 2025, at the Multipurpose Auditorium of Osun State University in Oshogbo, Osun State.

Prof. Gwarzo received the award through Prof. Ahmad Maigari Ibrahim, Dean of the Postgraduate School, and Prof. Abubakar Sadiq Haruna, Director of the Institute of Africa Higher Education, Research, and Innovations (IAHERI).

The Thabo Mbeki Award is given to African leaders who demonstrate visionary, ethical, and people-centered leadership.

The award also celebrates those who show dedication to the ideals of the African Renaissance and unity.
