Students of Tianjin University China visit MAAUN

Some Students of Tianjin University, China, on Wednesday, paid a visit to Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria as part of their educational tour to explore MAAUN’s marvelous infrastructure and top notch academic programs.

The students, who came from the department of foreign languages, Tianjin University, are currently undergoing their four-month intensive training on Hausa Studies at the Department of Nigerian Languages, Bayero University, Kano.

During the visit, the students were accompanied by the Head of the Department, Prof. Isah Mukhtar, and were warmly received on arrival by the management staff of the university.

The visiting students were taken round some important places within the university, including the Professor Abubakar Adamu Rasheed Twin lecture Theatre, Murtala Ramat Mohammed Library, Schools of Computing and Nursing Sciences among other places.

The students also took time to interact with their counterparts in MAAUN, shared insights and perspectives in addition to taking pictures.

In their separate remarks, the students commended the proprietor of the university for providing an enabling environment for effective teaching and learning.

They particularly expressed satisfaction with the facilities put in place in the twin lecture theatre and library among other places visited.

In his remarks, the Head of Department of Nigerian Languages, Bayero University, Kano, Prof. Isah Mukhtar called for a collaboration between BUK and MAAUN

He also urged the management of MAAUN to look into the possibility of integrating Hausa Language into the Mass Communication curriculum to enable Mass Com students to offer Hausa language as a subsidiary course in view of its importance.

According to him, any students of Mass Comm wishing to work in media houses after graduating, especially in northern Nigeria, will need Hausa language to enable him to have better knowledge of Hausa translation and orthography.

He said the department of Nigerian languages had collaboration with seven universities across the world as there are students from Germany, Poland, and Libya who are currently pursuing Masters and doctorate degrees in Hausa language in BUK.

Earlier in his welcome address, the President of MAAUN, Prof.(Dr.).Mohammad Israr appreciated the students for the visit, which he said would go a long way in establishing cordial relationships between students of the two institutions.

Also speaking, the Vice President Administration, Dr. Habib Abubakar Awais thanked the students of Tianjin University for taking their time to visit MAAUN.

He said the management of MAAUN would look into their request for partnership with a view to achieving the desired objective.
