Mass Communication Students at the Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN) on Wednesday launched the maiden edition of their Newspaper titled “MAAUN Chronicles”.

The Newspaper which was produced by the final year students (Class of 2021), was launched by the Founder of the University, Prof. Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, who bought some copies of the paper at the cost of N2 million.

Speaking shortly after the launching of the paper, Prof. Gwarzo urged the Students to work hard in order to enable them work in some reputable media outfits across the world.

“You need to work hard so that we can push some of you to work with international media organizations like BBC, CNN and other international media organizations,” Prof. Gwarzo said.

He, however, advised the students to avoid yellow journalism and blackmail as those who engage in such journalism don’t usually end well in their career.

Prof. Gwarzo, who spoke at length on journalism as a profession, warned the students against misusing social media, while urging them to uphold the ethics of the profession.

Earlier in his welcome address, a lecturer in the Department of Mass Communication, Mr. Saka Raji said the Newspaper was produced by the students with the guidance of their lecturers.

While commending the university management for the support, he expressed hope that the university would soon establish its radio station for the Mass Com students.

In his remarks, the President of MAAUN, Prof. (Dr.) Mohammad Israr described the maiden edition of the Newspaper as a milestone.

He congratulated the students and faculty members for achieving the feat stressing that the university would soon have its Radio and Television stations.

Also speaking, the chairman of the occasion and the Dean of the School of Postgraduate Studies, Prof. Ahmad Maigari Ibrahim, congratulated both staff and students of the department for producing the Newspaper.

Among management staff who graced the occasion were the Vice President Administration, Dr. Habib Awais Abubakar; Director, Quality Assurance, Dr. Nura Yaro; among others.
